Three people died from suffocation onboard an unidentified cargo ship at the port of Sohar, Oman, according to the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA).

The Asian men got trapped, after they fell inside a storage compartment of the cargo ship on Saturday evening. According to local media, the three men died due to asphyxiation, after inhaling the chemicals used to preserve wood inside the vessel.

In response, Sohar Industrial Port Company (SIPC) underlined that this was an isolated incident that would not impact safety of the other people onboard or of the port communities.

Further, SIPC noted that it is collaborating with the authorities to determine the exact causes of the accident.
