Equipment of fast oil recovery system
French company JLMD Ecologic Group reports that it has agreed to equip the future fleet of Louis Dreyfus Armateurs ‘green’ bulk carriers, which will be built in China, with its fast oil recovery system (FOR) .
The FOR System is designed to counter accidental pollutions at sea. Following an incident, the system enables fast and standardised pollutant recovery, directly from ships’ tanks. The deal was signed by JLMD and Tianjin Xingang Shipyard (XGSIC), which will build the vessels. The agreement includes FOR equipment on between four and eight new bulk carriers (handy and cape size), which will also showcase other ‘green’ technologies.
This commitment, says the yard, which is one of the largest state-owned yards in the China Shipbulidng Industry Corporation (XGSIC), demonstrates the strong will of the whole Chinese maritime industry to become a leader in the field of green ship building.
Liu Shushan, deputy director of business department and economist of the Tianjin Xingang Shipyard, declared: “We are proud that a Chinese shipyard is the first in the world to equip new built bulk carriers with the fast oil recovery systems. The Louis Dreyfus Armateurs vessels which we are to build will follow the best international environmental standards. Chinese shipyards are committed to build environmental-friendly vessels and we are indeed ready and willing to include the most recent and efficient technological solutions in our design to build the green vessels of the future.”
Gilles Longuève, general manager of JLMD Systems, added: “Maritime leaders are more and more keen to adopt green shipping solutions. Among them, the Chinese maritime industry has run a long way in the last years, positioning itself as a pioneer in the field. Their decision to install FOR Systems on the next generation of bulk carriers is a clear sign of a growing leadership on the market. We are proud of the very positive feedback we now receive from shipyards and ship owners on our solutions.
There is an increasing environmental awareness among the international shipping industry, which clearly paves the way to a better handling of accidental pollutions at seas. FOR Systems have gained international recognition. Bureau Véritas has issued a specific class notation and maritime passive safety equipments, including the FOR systems are currently assessed at the International Maritime Organization”.
