The President of Panama and some of the worlds most influential shipowners visited today Posidonia 2010, the biggest international sea transportation event,where they met with officials of the international shipping companies representing a wide gamut of maritime sectors spanning ship building, vessel registration and equipment manufacturing.
The head of the famous canal state Ricardo Martinelli who arrived to the exhibitions venue at 13.00 said: Posidonia is an exceptional maritime event which is extremely well organized and highly beneficial to all marine industry stakeholders worldwide. Panama, like Greece, share significant shipping heritage and we are always delighted to participate in Posidonia, a forum that helps us promote the strengths of our flag, he said.
Earlier, the President of the Union of Greek Shipowners (UGS) Theodore Veniamis led a UGS delegation comprising board members John Lyras, Leonidas Evgenides, George Gratsos, Michael Handris, George Prokopiou, Nicky Papadakis, and General Secretary for Shipping Affairs George Vlahos.
The delegation toured the 31,000 square metre floor of the Hellenikon Exhibition for more than an hour and tomorrow they will return for the customary UGS press conference held at Posidonia every two years.
It is noteworthy that Greek owners control 22,4% of the world oil tanker fleet and 24,6% of the world bulk carrier fleet.
Posidonia 2010 is sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Competitiveness and Shipping, the Municipality of Piraeus, the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, the Union of Greek Shipowners, the Greek Shipping Co-operation Committee, the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association, the Association of Greek Passenger Shipping Companies and the Union of Marine Enterprises.
