UK Department of Transport announced the release of a comprehensive guidance for cyber safety and security for the shipping industry. The ‘Ship cyber security code of practice’ launched at industry’s event LISW 2017, with the aim to provide detailed information on implementing and maintaining good cyber security practices on maritime vessels.
In particular, the code of practice aims to provide actionable advice on:
- developing a cyber security assessment and plan to manage risk
- handling security breaches and incidents
- highlighting national and international standards used
- the relationship to existing regulation
The guidance works with the ‘Cyber security for ports and port systems code of practice’ for use in conjunction with organisation’s risk management systems and subsequent business planning.
The code was produced by the Institution of Engineering and Technology with support of the Defence Science and Technological Laboratory, funded by the Department for Transport.
