Wärtsilä, Templar Executives to establish cyber academy

Wärtsilä will cooperate with the cyber security company Templar Executives to set up a cyber academy in Singapore. The academy will offer courses to improve the collective cyber maturity of the shipping community. The courses will cover various topics, from cyber security coaching for senior management, to cyber awareness for all organisational levels within the maritime industry.

Scrubbers not a definite solution for 2020 sulphur cap compliance

Scrubbers as a measure to comply with the sulphur cap in 2020 would be a quick fix, according to Wartsila's director of exhaust gas cleaning, Sigurd Jenssen, and more drastic measures are needed. Mr. Jenssen said that equipping 2,000-3,000 ships with scrubbers by 2020 can be done. But with a global fleet of about 60,000 vessels, many of them will have to use cleaner fuels.

Wärtsilä acquires Transas

Finnish Wärtsilä acquired the UK based Transas. The transaction is valued at 210m Euros and is expected to be closed during the second quarter of 2018. This transaction is part of Wärtsilä's attempt to expand its Smart Marine Ecosystem vision. Transas has 22 regional offices worldwide and a distribution network that spans 120 countries.
