Videotel launched a new virtual reality (VR) training title, aiming to help ship operators avoid possible claims running into millions of pounds, because of cargo damage caused by insufficient tank cleaning on board chemical tankers. Videotel’s VR training module titled 'Wall Wash Test-Protecting Your Cargo', has been produced in association with the company's VR content partners OMS.

KVH Industries announced that it has sold its maritime training business, the Videotel group of companies, to an affiliate of Oakley Capital for a base purchase price of $90 million. The sale was completed immediately upon execution of definitive agreements. The company will invest in the development and commercialization of our photonic integrated chip technology for use in autonomous vehicles and other commercial and military platforms.

KVH Videotel has launched an LNG bunkering training course to help crew and port or terminal staff enable a safe bunkering process. The programme  has been developed in response to the increased use of LNG as a bunker fuel.

Speaking at CrewConnect Global in Manila, Mark Woodhead, KVH Videotel senior vice president EMEA, stressed that ship operators should aim for training excellence, rather than just attaining the minimum standards required, and use training as a key tool for attracting and retaining high-calibre seafarers in a competitive market.

KVH Videotel announced it has initiated a cyber security training programme, in cooperation with BIMCO, to address the threat of ransomware and other computer system attacks that could severely affect the safety of ships’ crew, systems, and operations.

The cloud-based software platform ensures that a crew’s latest training records are accessible from any web-enabled device, and interactive reports and dashboards present data on crew performance, skill levels, strengths, weaknesses, and training schedules.

VideotelTM has announced the launch of a new training programme, “Report a Near-Miss, Save a Life”, in association with the Standard Club P&I club, which insures ship owners, operators, and charterers for their liabilities to third parties. The programme examines the importance of sharing near-miss reports, to help reduce the chances of incidents.

MPA Singapore released a training programme, produced by VideotelTM aiming to encourage safe navigation in the Singapore Strait, one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.
