In January 2021, seven incidents of armed robbery against ships were reported in Asia, according to ReCAAP ISC's monthly piracy report. The number of incidents in January 2021 has increased compared to December 2020 (with two incidents), but decreased compared to January 2020 when 12 incidents were reported. 

In its weekly report for 2-8 February, ReCAAP ISC informed of one incident of armed robbery against ships in Asia, involving the Hong Kong-flagged tanker Sea Harvest, while anchored at Kandla Outer Anchorage, India. This was classified as a CAT 4 incident, where the perpetrators were not armed and the crew not harmed.

In its weekly piracy report for 26 January-1 February, ReCAAP ISC informed of four incidents of armed robbery against ships. Of these, two occurred on ships while underway in the Singapore Strait, one to a ship while anchored at Belawan Anchorage, Indonesia and one occurred to a ship berthed at Makar Wharf, General Santos City, Philippines. 

During 25–29 January 2021, three incidents were reported onboard ships while underway in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Strait, the ReCAAP ISC informed in a special alert to shipping. This is the first incident alert for 2021, following a turbulent 2020 for ships in the region. 

In its weekly piracy report for 19-25 January, ReCAAP ISC informed of one incident of armed robbery against ship in Asia, involving the Barbados-flagged bulk carrier Ark Royal, while underway in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Strait. 

As piracy remains a hot topic of discussion and a challenging issue for the shipping industry, ReCAAP ISC launches its annual report for 2020 reporting 97 incidents in Asia, which reveals a 17% increase year-on-year.

An armed robbery took place onboard the Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier SBI Orion, while at Muara Berau Anchorage, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, in the early morning hours of 3 January. 

In its weekly report for 22-28 December, ReCAAP ISC said it did not receive any reports of armed robbery against ships in Asia, but informed of one attempted incident to an LNG tanker while underway off the Gulf of Guinea.

In its weekly report for 15-21 December, ReCAAP ISC informed of one armed robbery against ship in Asia. The incident occurred on 15 December, onboard a bulk carrier Vantage Rider, while berthed at Lubuk Guang Port, Dumai, Indonesia.

A total of 10 perpetrators armed with knives boarded the tug boat/supply vessel 'Bridgewater 80', while underway west of Kutubdia, Bangladesh, according to information by ReCAAP ISC.
