According to the report, pirate and maritime crime activity in East Africa waters is at a low level. ONI also published Worldwide Threat to Shipping report, which provides info on piracy threats to, and criminal action against, merchant vessels worldwide, in period 23 January - 22 February 2017.

According to the report, pirate and maritime crime activity in East Africa is in a low level, as there were no incidents reported, and in West Africa is in a moderate level, as there were two kidnappings this week.

There was one reported attack in West Africa on oil infrastructure this past week and one attempted boarding event from a previous week.

In West Africa waters, there was one attack against oil infrastructure this week and late reporting of an attack on a military unit from the previous week.
