Five people were injured, one of them seriously, during a routine training exercise on the Bermuda-registered Carnival Cruises' vessel 'MV Arcadia', in Ponta Delgada, Azores, on Saturday. The lifeboat broke from its cabling and fell from its davits into the sea, with five crew members onboard.

The UK MCA issued a marine notice, highlighting the risks of using non-SOLAS or non-pyrotechnic distress flares such as Electronic Visual Distress Signals. Two boaties were rescued from Cape Jackson in the Marlborough Sounds, where they were stranded after their 10-metre launch was wrecked on rocks, the  Rescue Coordination Centre New Zealand informed. The pair had been stranded on the rocks for eleven hours with no way to call for help. Their lifejackets were found on the beach.
