India gives locally built ships priority in chartering

In order to promote the Make in India initiative and give incentives for ship building activity in the country, the Indian Ministry of Shipping revised its guidelines for chartering of ships by providing Right of First Refusal to ships built in India. Whenever a tendering process is performed to charter a vessel, a bidder offering a ship built in India will be given the first priority to match the L1 quote.

India-Norway Marine Pollution Initiative launched

In an attempt to tackle marine pollution, India's Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change signed a letter of Intent finilizing the India-Norway Marine Pollution Initiative together with the Norwegian ministry of Foreign Affairs. Both Indian and Norwegian government agreed on jointly working on keeping oceans clean by signing an MoU and establishing the India-Norway Ocean Dialogue during the Norwegian Prime Minister’s visit to India in January.

Maersk to start moving containers on river Ganga waterway

India informed that Maersk Line will move 16 containers on river Ganga, from Varanasi to Kolkata, on January 12. Maersk is onboard India’s inland waterways for the first time. Cargo will now move directly from the hinterland to and from Bangladesh and the rest of the world through Bay of Bengal. Maersk moving containers on river Ganga comes after similar movements already done by companies like PepsiCo, Emami Agrotech, IFFCO Fertilizers, Dabur India.
