AD Ports Group in collaboration with KazMorTransFlot (KMTF), has announced the acquisition and commencement of operations of two state-of-the-art vessels designed for the transportation of Kazakhstan's oil across the Caspian Sea. 

An Indian shipbuilder, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), has clinched a significant contract to construct 24 cargo ships for Russian clients that will be utilized in the Caspian region.

Oil major BP has awarded key contracts for the Azeri-Central-East (ACE) project, the next stage of development of the giant Azeri-Chirag-Deepwater Gunashli (ACG) oilfield complex in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea. This is the largest oilfield in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian basin. 

EMSA launched a project on maritime safety, maritime security and protection of the marine environment between the EU MS and Non-EU countries bordering the Black and Caspian Sea. EMSA has implemented the Black and Caspian Sea Regions Project for technical assistance bringing together national, European and international stakeholders with the aim to raise the safety, security and protection of marine environment standards.

According to local reports, a pipe-laying vessel working in Azerbaijan for Italian oilfield service provider Saipem reportedly caught fire on Wednesday, May 8. The vessel was operating in Caspian Sea when the fire broke out.

Oil and oil-related shipments from Georgia’s Black Sea port of Batumi fell 51.2 % in 2018 compared to 2017 according to Reuters. An amount of crude oil was re-routed to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium in 2018, whereas some fuel oil was sent to the port of Taman in Russia and Georgia’s other Black Sea port of Kulevi.

A total of 12 crew members onboard the Iranian cargo ship 'Nazmehr' suffered poisoning and three of theme died. The crew was sickened by an unspecified 'chemical substance' which was used to preserve the cargo. The incident was reported about 21 miles off the island of Pirallahi, in central Caspian Sea.

Oil major BP and its partners announced the start-up of the landmark Shah Deniz 2 gas development in Azerbaijan, including its first commercial gas delivery to Turkey. The $28 billion project is the first subsea development in the Caspian Sea and the largest subsea infrastructure operated by the company worldwide.

The Caspian littoral states have decided to adopt a unified mode for PSC inspections in ports in the region, equivalent to this of the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, according to an official statement by Kazakhstan's Ministry of Investment and Development.

The Chairman of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company, Rauf Veliyev, and the General Director of OJSC Moscow River Shipping Company, Konstantin Anisimov, signed a memorandum of cooperation in cruise shipping in the Caspian region, with the use of the new cruise vessel 'Peter the Great'.
