The Dutch foundation "Ocean CleanUp" was given The Heyerdahl Award 2017, at Nor-Shipping Conference, for its combination of technological innovation, and raising awareness on the global problem of marine litter.

DNV GL has honoured three engineers for their scientific research, with the DNV GL Award for Young Professionals. The award is designed to find innovative ideas for increasing safety, efficiency and sustainability in shipping and, seeking to honour the best research, it aims to support young graduates in the maritime field. 25 graduates took part this year.

Inmarsat announced that ‘Fleet Xpress’, which won the 2017 SMART4SEA Excellent Award last January, had an unprecedented market response at the first time of its launch covering in excess of 10,000 ships. This has been reached as a result of contracts with individual ship owners, commitments from strategic Partners, and transitioning agreements with existing Inmarsat customers.

Mr. Poul Woodall, Director Environment & Sustainability, DFDS, explains what the GREEN4SEA Clean Shipping Award means for his company. DFDS was the winner of the award this year for its focus on green shipping by investing in many initiatives. Mr. Woodall highlights that companies should never put on hold efforts for reducing their environmental impact.

Nor-Shipping announced that Tuomas Riski, CEO of Norsepower, has been awarded its "Young Entrepreneur of the Year" award for 2017, for his innovative rotor sail solutions, which has the potential to deliver fuel and emissions savings of up to 20% in favourable wind conditions.
