An oil tanker and a cargo ship collided in the early hours of July 1st, in the Channel east of the British port of Dover.
At the time of the accident, the 183 meter-long “Seafrontier” tanker was carrying 27 crew members and 40,000 tonnes of hydrocarbons, while the 225-meter long cargo ship “Huayan Endeavour” was not loaded, but had a crew of 22 on board.
Both vessels suffered damage in the collision, with the Seafrontier having a hole above the water line and damage to the superstructure. The response operation included two RNLI all-weather lifeboats and the UK Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 163.
There were no reports of injuries or water pollution.
The Channel between Britain and France is considered as one of the busiest shipping corridors in the world, as it is estimated that about 500 vessels transit it every day.
