Coast Guard responds to allision on Sabine River
Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur is currently responding to an allision that occurred early Thursday morning between the motor vessel King Yukon and the fishing vessel Capt Scottnear Mesquite Point on the Sabine River. No injuries were sustained during the incident.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Vessel Traffic Port Arthur initially received the call at approximately 1:40 a.m. from the Sabine Pilots reporting the incident. A Coast Guard 25-foot Response Boat-Small and crewwas dispatched to the scene and arrived at approximately 2:15 a.m.
The allision occurred between the King Yukon and the Capt Scott, which was moored to the fishing pier near Mesquite Point. The allision caused subsequent minor damage to two other fishing vessels moored to the pier: the Little Angel and the Lucky Aaron.As a result of the allision, theLittle Angel emitted diesel fuel into the waterway.The Coast Guard, Texas General Land Office, Oil Mop, and the Port Arthur Fire Department are currently on-scene. Clean up crews have deployed 400 feet of containment boom and sorbents to prevent further spread of diesel fuel into the waterway.A vacuum truck is also on-scene to assist in cleanup operations.
Theship channel is closed to all inbound and outbound vessel traffic from the Sabine-Neches Waterway south of the Intracoastal Waterway.There are currently two outbound vessels and two inbound vesselsawaiting transit.
A Unified Command comprised ofTexas General Land Office, Port Arthur Police Department, Oil Mop and the Coast Guardhas beenestablished to respond to the incident.
