AMSA Marine Notice 8/2014
AMSA has issued Marine Notice 08/2014 to advise master of the Vessel Traffic Services (VTS) in Australia which are authorised under the Navigation Act 2012 and Marine Order 64 (Vessel Traffic Services) 2013 (MO 64), and to remindthem of their obligations to provide reportsrequired by a VTS Authority, and to comply withinstructions given by a VTS Authority regardingvessel movements.

Masters’ ResponsibilityUnder MO 64, masters are required to: Provide reports required by a VTS authority- The master of a vessel must give to aVTS authority each report or anyinformation the VTS authority requires themaster to provide. Information may berequired, for example, about the identity,intended passage or geographical locationof the vessel, and Comply with instructions of VTS authority -The master of a vessel must comply witheach instruction for the movement of thevessel given to the vessel by a VTSAuthority |
AMSA is the Competent Authority for VTS inAustralia. MO 64 (Vessel Traffic Services) 2013 ismade under Chapter 6 of the Navigation Act 2012.
Vessels may also be required to comply with localport requirements under state legislation when inAustralian port limits. Masters are advised tocommunicate with port authorities not listed in theAnnex to this Marine Notice regarding theirreporting requirements prior to entry.
