On November 19, the Vietnamese cargo ship MV Thaison 4 collided with the Indonesian sailboat KM Mulya Sejati off Indonesia’s East Java province leaving three dead, The New York Times reports.
The sailboat, was carrying 27 people, mostly Indonesian fishermen. According to the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS), rescuers discovered three bodies by the stern of the ship. All of the victims were from the Indonesian boat, and 12 were rescued and rushed to a hospital for examination.
Media reports cited witnesses as saying the Indonesian boat capsized after being hit from behind by the freighter, which is now being moored in Lamongan town for investigation. The cargo ship was loaded with tapioca flour and en route to Tanjung Perak port in Surabaya.
Investigation continues with two naval vessels and a helicopter deployed.
