A consortium including technology group Wärtsilä has secured European Union funding to develop solutions minimising methane slip from marine engines, advancing the environmental and climate benefits of LNG as a ship fuel.

Following an announcement back in October 2022, Wärtsilä has integrated the Voyage business into Wärtsilä Marine Power since the beginning of 2023 to strengthen its lifecycle offering and to accelerate the turnaround of Voyage business. However, this strategic move will result in the reduction of around 300 positions in the current Voyage organisation, while at the same time will open approximately 150 new positions. 

Wärtsilä surveyed a broad cross-section of maritime professionals across EMEA, the US and APAC about their concerns on digitalization, and what they believe the industry can do to successfully adopt innovative maritime technologies.

Wärtsilä has entered into a joint development agreement with Hycamite TCD Technologies, to enable cost-effective production of hydrogen from LNG onboard marine vessels.

Wärtsilä will supply its hybrid propulsion system for four new heavy lift vessels being built at the Wuhu Shipyard in China.

The sheer volume of data that we have at our fingertips today has never been greater. In 2021, the overall amount of data generated in the world was estimated to be around 79 zettabytes—equivalent to 79 trillion gigabytes. By 2025, this amount is expected to double, Wartsila Voyage notes in a recent report, highlighting the key benefits of managing and analysing data for the maritime industry. 

Wärtsilä and Capital Gas Ship Management have agreed to partner in the development of a new Fleet Decarbonisation Programme aimed at achieving defined decarbonisation targets.

Wärtsilä and Rio de Janeiro based Companhia Brasileira de Offshore (CBO) have signed an agreement for Decarbonisation Modelling. The objective is to support and accelerate CBO´s journey towards decarbonised operations for its fleet of offshore support vessels.

Commenting on World Maritime Day, Sarah Barrett, Product Insights at Wärtsilä Voyage, commented that “the green transition is now at the top of every ship manager, owner, and operator’s agenda."
