NTSB issued an investigation report on a fire and explosion incident onboard the fishing vessel 'Hit List' while in Merrimack River, in August 2018. The investigation found the fire was caused by failure of a hydraulic hose fitting. Meanwhile, the water used for firefighting efforts contributed to the vessel's sinking. 

The Coast Guard reported that three vessels sunk on the Illinois River near Hardin, Illinois, Sunday, July 7. According to the coastguard's statement, the sinking boats were holding about 4,850 gallons of diesel and oil.

As UK MAIB presents in its latest Safety Digest, three fishermen went to haul some static nets. Yet, after sometime the vessel began sinking and the fishermen had to urgently call the coastguard to come to the rescue. Later on, the inspection showed that some equipment was outdated and wasn't working, despite the fact that the vessel had been updated by one of the fishermen five years ago. 

On 20 June 2019, an Ocean Network Express (ONE) operated vessel, the 'NYK Eagle', took part in a combined rescue operation, rescuing 6 crew members from a sinking coastal vessel in the Eastern Gulf of Aden. As ONE informed, 'NYK Eagle' was navigating the ocean when it received a request from CMF to help a small coastal vessel which was sinking, as 'NYK Eagle' was closest to the vessel in question.

BBC highlighted the hazardous environmental impact of containers falling overboard, even when they are empty. The discussion focused on 'Maersk Shanghai' container vessel that sank in 2018 and the majority of the containers it was transferring were lost in sea.

The 180-foot long cargo freighter 'Voici Bernadette' was sunk as an artificial reef about 11 miles southeast of the Fort Pierce Inlet, Florida. The US Customs and Border Patrol donated the freighter to St. Lucie County, after seizing it for smuggling cocaine into Miami from Haiti.

As local sources report, a Filipino fishing boat, that had 22 fishermen onboard, sank after being hit by an alleged Chinese vessel, in Reed Bank, in the South China Sea. Since the area of the incident is in the middle of disputes, the accident increased the already existent tension between the countries.

Ireland's Marine Casualty Investigation Board (MCIB) issued an investigation report on a fatal incident involving the fishing vessel 'Aisling Patrick' 15 nm off Broadhaven, Co Mayo, on 10th April 2018, that resulted in one fatality. The report highlighted poor training and maintenance, as well as inefficient EPIRB. 

UK MAIB, in its latest Safety Digest accident report, focuses on a vessel sinking as the engine room was full of water and the crew wasn't able to manage the flood. The report notes that seafarers should cope with a flood incident as serious as they cope with a fire incident. Thus, drilling operations should be frequently conducted so that the crewmembers will be alert on a case of an emergency.

A recently restored wooden sailing ship sunk as it collided with a container ship in Hamburg. Because of the quick response of five rescue boats which where in the area when the accident happened, all 43 passengers were rescued. The two ships collided on the River Elbe after a failed tack led the sailing ship into the container ship.
