Strong wind leads to line bollard ripping

In its newly published Safety Digest, UK MAIB focuses on a passenger ferry that was attempting to moor on a berth with a strong groundswell in strong winds when, without warning, one of its mooring line bollards was ripped from the deck. The ferry had to be taken out of service for several days to facilitate repairs to its deck plating and a roller fairlead. Nobody was injured.

OCIMF: Update to dynamic torsion load tests for offshore hoses

OCIMF issued an information paper providing an update to section 3.4.10.3: Dynamic Test – Torsion Load in OCIMF’s Guide to Manufacturing and Purchasing Hoses for Offshore Moorings. The dynamic torsion test in that guide does not take into consideration the large differences in torsional stiffness of hoses from different manufacturers that have different hose constructions.

Port of Langnas to have rope-free mooring system

Trelleborg will provide to the Port of Langnas an automated rope-free mooring system, 'AutoMoor'. The system uses smart technologies to enable a faster berthing process and improve safety levels within the port environment. The port has international cruise ferry and domestic ro-ro ferry berths and is situated in the Baltic Sea, on the archipelago of Aland which has ferry traffic between Sweden and Finland via Aland.
