Houthis claim that they will stop attacks on international shipping in the Red Sea only when Israel ceases aggression in the Gaza Strip.

Two incidents of armed robbery against ships (one CAT 2 incident and one CAT 3 incident) in Asia were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 20th - 26th February 2024.

On February 19 Houthis launched an attack with two anti-ship ballistic missiles at the M/V Sea Champion, a Greek-flagged, U.S.-owned bulk carrier vessel that has delivered humanitarian aid to Yemen multiple times.

In response to the persistent attacks by Houthis in the Red Sea area, international organizations with significant influence are actively seeking solutions on multiple fronts. 

The Information Fusion Centre (IFC) has released its annual report in which it highlights that a total of 117 theft, robbery and piracy at sea (TRAPS) incidents in the IFC’s Area of Interest (AOI) were recorded in 2023.

Crisis responders from Sailors' Society are currently seeking financial support for their efforts in assisting seafarers affected by the Red Sea conflict.

Industry associations BIMCO, ICS, CLIA, IMCA, INTERCARGO, INTERTANKO and OCIMF have revised the security guidance applicable to navigating in the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
