The Federal Government of Nigeria will collaborate with the Republic of Korea on the Integrated National Security and Waterways Protection Infrastructure otherwise known as the Deep Blue Project.

USS Hershel “Woody” Williams, the first ship permanently assigned to Africa, recently arrived in Nigeria’s commercial capital city of Lagos, as part the U.S. government’s support to combat piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.

The IFC has just conducted the 7th Maritime Information Sharing Exercise (MARISX) from 27 to 29 Jul 21. The exercise seeks to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation in info-sharing between military, enforcement agencies and the shipping community through table-top exercises, in-depth discussions on MARSEC matters and presentations from subject-matter experts across various MARSEC threat categories.

The Gulf of Guinea Maritime Collaboration Forum – SHADE (GOG-MCF/SHADE) project was officially launched on 14 July as a new collaborative framework to combat illicit maritime activities in the Gulf of Guinea. 

IMO has called for increased collaboration and action to tackle an escalation in the number and severity of attacks in the Gulf of Guinea region, which threatens the lives and well-being of seafarers and the safety of shipping.

On 12 April, Egypt became the 34th member of the Combined Maritime Forces (CMF), in order to promote security, stability and prosperity.
