The Queensland coastal passage plan (QCPP) AMSA launched and funded has been revised and includes all the feedback that the Authority received from the coastal pilots and pilotage providers. According to it all Masters and coastal pilots transiting these areas should consider the information in the QCPP when preparing their passage plans. Vessel owners, charterers, and agents might also find the document useful in improving the readiness of ships by ensuring voyage plans, waypoints and other planning considerations have been completed in a standardised manner.  

AMSA reminds that from 13 December 2018, all certificates issued for a vessel survey, Exemption 2 - non-survey and Exemption 40-class C restricted, no longer include the name of the certificate holder. These certificates and exemptions allow a vessel to operate commercially in Australia. However, they do not provide proof of title, ownership of a vessel or an operator’s competence to operate a vessel.

The AMSA-contracted Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROUV) assessment of the containers lost from the YM Efficiency recommenced on 12 January. The video, issued by AMSA, shows some highlights from the ROUV operations in December.

A fishing vessel was grounded on Hawksbury Island, Australia, during the recent passing of Tropical Cyclone Penny. As it had been drifting, AMSA started an operation to secure the vessel in order to not pose a risk on shipping lanes. The Coral Knight located the vessel and used an emergency wreck marker buoy weight as an anchor.

Marine science and safety shared a view of a natural phenomenon on the Great Barrier Reef when Australia’s two leading marine agencies joined forces to track ocean currents. Namely, AMSA and oceanographers from the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) tracked coral spawn slicks on the Great Barrier Reef.

Australia region is the second most common trade destination in Tokyo MoU, following China, in which AMSA is responsible for conducting inspections. The detainable items are not only recorded in detailed inspections but also in typical/ initial inspections.

AMSA released the livestock vessel MV Jawan from detention on December 20. The vessel completed a sea trial within the Port of Portland, which confirmed that its motion was consistent with the calculated stability. The vessel was released from detention in Portland to begin its voyage to Singapore for repairs.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has revoked the Australian Certificate for the Carriage of Livestock (ACCL) of the Panamanian-flagged livestock carrier 'Jawan', as 'the vessel’s approved stability data cannot be relied upon when the vessel is loaded'.
