M/V Montecristo was reported as hijacked on Oct 10 2011 at 0444 UTC, hijack took place some 620 nm east of the Somali coast.
Owner of the vessel, Italian D'Alesio Shipping Co. said, that 'After 10 hours without news, we can consider the ship hijacked'. Navy didn't confirm hijack yet, saying in their daily report 10.10.11, that "Today at 0450Z there was an attack against a merchant vessel by 1 skiff using an RPG in position 1231N 06148E, approx. 240nm east of Socotra Island".
That correlates with the position and the time of the reported hijack. Somali Report said "Nine pirates, attacking from two skiffs and a mothership, fired one shot before boarding the vessel. All crew members went into the citadel except unarmed security guards who remained behind trying to protect the ship and her crew, according to maritime sources and a pirate who spoke to Somalia Report".
After that, claim Somali Report sources, vessel started to move around in circles, which means crew locked in citadel and waiting for Navy rescue. It happened quite a number of times before - vessel was reported as hijacked, but Navies keep silence, and later vessel was reported as freed by Navies with crew safely in citadel.
