Panama Flag: 5 key risk areas accounted for 70% of incidents in 2023

From January to December 2023, Indonesia, Peru, Philippines, Ghana, and Singapore Straits are the locations that contributed to 70% of the total 120 incidents reported in the Panama Maritime Authority. As such, the Administration encourages all Ship- owners/Operators and Masters to take the proper maritime security measurements in order to reduce and minimize the risks associated.

Working Group on IUU Fishing: Need for action to strengthen inspection for fishing vessels

Illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing is a widespread challenge that covers a range of destructive fishing practices, occurring both in the high seas and within national territorial waters. It has been identified as one of the main threats to the conservation and sustainable use of the world’s fish stocks. In that regard, the IMO, the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) are currently boosting coordination to tackle IUU fishing.
