John Knott

About me
During the last four years John has been heavily involved in initiatives against maritime piracy. In 2008, he organised what was then the largest maritime piracy conference in the world, attended by 400 industry professionals at Lloyd's of London's building, and has subsequently maintained a close interest in the subject. He has written nearly twenty articles about piracy off Somalia, many of which also appear on HFW's website, and several of which have been translated into other languages.
John was previously Head of Admiralty Claims at HFW's London office. He has written extensively on aspects of damages for a range of legal journals. His articles have been cited in many of the leading text books and in the Admiralty Court, the Court of Appeal and the House of Lords. John has also contributed to the Damages title of Halsbury’s Laws of England and the latest edition of the Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents. Currently, he is writing a textbook on damages, jointly with M.N. Howard, QC.
